UNDERSTAND PRINT AND SCREEN DIFFERENCES

Adapt your editing approach depending on the destination output for your images

Adapt for your destination output

Over the years, photographers have devised the best methods of transferring the image data captured by a camera onto a permanent medium, for archiving and display. Some of these processes have remained a critical part of a printer’s workflow and are still used today. However, camera technology and the technical requirements and quality standards expected from a print have changed vastly since the dawn of the digital age. Highresolution cameras are capable of capturing tremendous volumes of detail, which can only be appreciated if the output destination is able to rebuild those images from the data provided. There are now many possible destinations for the images we take, namely print and digital media, each with different display properties. A deep understanding of how these relate and how they differ is critical if we are to derive the best quality and therefore the best value from our cameras and lenses.
