PHASE ONE CAPTURE ONE 12 NOW AVAILABLE
New version features a new interface, new masking tools and more compatible cameras
Capture One is the go-to RAW file editing software for many pros and the latest version could see it become even more popular.
Naturally, it adds support for some of the recent camera introductions (Nikon Z6 and Z7, Canon EOS R and M50 and Fuji GFX 50R). Phase One has also streamlined the interface to enhance customisability and ease use, with some features reorganised to make them easier to find. It’s also made the Windows and Mac versions the same. In addition, a new plug-in ecosystem has been introduced to allow third-party developers to offer their services and applications from within Capture One.
Capture One 12 also adds three new masking tools, Luma Range, Linear Gradient and Radial Gradient. Luma Range is especially interesting as it enables photographers to create masks quickly based on pixel brightness. It should prove very useful for landscapes and portraits as complex masks can be created almost instantly. Once the mask has been created it can be precisely adjusted and used to apply almost any editing tool. These Luma Range adjustments can then be copied from one image to another with the effect being based on the new image’s luminance.
