“IT’S MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER TO FOCUS ACCURATELY AND SHOOT SHARP”

- MATT BENNETT, EDITOR matthew.bennett@futurenet.com

Welcome to the latest issue of

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHER magazine. There was a time when shooting sharp images didn’t receive the focus, if you’ll pardon the pun, that it gets today. Once, taking a photo that was in good, sharp focus was quite an achievement, in the days before cameras were capable of doing a lot of the job themselves.

As manufacturers have achieved higher and higher resolution sensors, any focusing inadequacies have become increasingly apparent, and we now consider it normal to zoom in and ‘pixel-peep’ at magnifications that we wouldn’t have even contemplated in the past. All of this means that it’s more important than ever to focus accurately and shoot sharp, and in the feature over on p34 of the magazine we’ve put together a guide to doing exactly that. However, if perfectly sharp shots aren’t quite your thing, then check out the interview on p24, in which Andrew S Gray discusses his love of intentional camera movement for truly artistic landscapes.

Elsewhere, we’ve got a guide to achieving impact in your photography, in which Peter Eastway explores the various techniques you can employ to grab attention. Head to p48 to begin reading it.

Meanwhile, our guide to flower photography on p62 has plenty to offer those who prefer to shoot still-life setups indoors, and we’ve got galleries, product reviews and industry news – plus our regular career guide. The group test this issue looks at wideangle zooms for APS-C cameras.

As always, we’d love to see some of your own images, so please upload them to our Facebook page at WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/DIGITALPHOTOGRAPHERUK.

Until next time, enjoy your photography!
