TOP TOOLS FOR REMOTE WORKING
DP’S pick of tools for shooting, editing, organising, and sharing in isolation
A COLLABORATIVE IMAGE-SHARING PLATFORM
Creativehub is a new and free remoteworking tool for collaborating with clients. The file storage and sharing platform (VERSION.NEW) has recently launched and was produced in record time as a response to the COVID-19 crisis and lockdown.
In a similar way to WeTransfer, photographers can instantly drag and drop and send files to others using an email. Everyone then gets a link to a webpage that the project sits on, and they can then click through, comment on files and use a handy pen tool to mark up areas of an image they would like to change. Why not try it out to collaborate and discuss projects with your clients?
PHYSICAL STORAGE DEVICES
Many of the professional photographers in this feature have mentioned image library organisation on their to-do list, but having the right storage is crucial to do this well. The cost of hard drives has come down considerably in recent years, both with portable and solid devices. Everyone has a different workflow when it comes to backing up images, but we recommend investing in a portable hard drive as well as a large-capacity external hard drive, such as Western Digital’s My Cloud Home. We love the SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive Go for backing up files from our iPhone.
PROFESSIONAL EDITING SOFTWARE
We’ve all got our favourite programs for processing our images, usually for good reason. That said, trying out a new editing suite can often force you to edit in new and creative ways, as you discover an unfamiliar interface and tools you haven’t experienced before. During this difficult time, companies have introduced some major discounts on their photo-editing software – at the time of writing, Affinity is offering a 50% discount on Affinity Photo, there’s 30% off DxO PhotoLab, and Adobe’s current Photography plan is under £10 a month. Take out a free trial of software first, and discover new ways to edit your work!
