1ST PLACE EXPERT

511 021

PHOTOGRAPHER: Jürg Homberger

OUR COMMENT: This image was probably far harder to capture than it first appears. We received lots of zoom-blur images this round, but in this image several things had to come together. The photographer had to balance the movement of the train with the speed of the blur, and for this shot it was done perfectly. It also has great colour and energy, making an everyday subject look exciting. Well done!

2ND PLACE

IMPRESSIONS FROM OSLO

PHOTOGRAPHER: Peter

OUR COMMENT: This is an exceptional abstract shot! There is a lovely blend of lighting effects, long exposure and handheld blurring, creating a very painterly look. ICM is a popular technique, but this is an unusual application and is paired with a great subject, making a common scene look artistic. Congratulations Peter.

3RD PLACE

LIFT OFF //

PHOTOGRAPHER: Walt Harden

OUR COMMENT: World in motion indeed! This is both a literal and interpretive take on the brief for this round. While the scene is a simple one, it required perfect timing and forethought to capture correctly. The long exposure shows the passage of time, but the rocket suggests motion in a metaphorical way too. Perfect exposure choice and concept.
