LACIE D2 PROFESSIONAL

This is the drive to go for if you’re looking for a combination of performance, reliability and style

Lacie is another brand that’s targeted towards high-end creative users. having been acquired by seagate over five years ago, it’s managed to keep its own identity.

The latest d2 professional is one of the brand’s higher grade single drives. designed by product designer neil poulton, the d2 professional is the best-looking of the four drives on test to our eyes, with the sleek space-grey finish complementing the clean lines of the drive and the subtle blue glow of the power button. there’s a durable all-aluminium shell, while the vertical orientation means that less desk space is sacrificed. another nice touch is the simple plug and lead configuration that does away with the need for a cumbersome power converter block.

At the heart of the d2 professional is seagate’s flagship barracuda pro drive. This 7,200rpm drive delivers the best performance of all four drives, with a stunning transfer speed of 260mb/s that puts it out of reach of even the g-drive. despite this performance, it still manages to deliver a near-silent operation thanks to the absence of a fan, instead relying on the heatsink design of the body.

Lacie backs this up with some impressive support too. not only is there a best-inclass five-year limited warranty, but lacie’s also bundled in its rescue data recovery services. this means that, should the worstcase scenario happen and you have a drive failure within that time, then lacie will not only replace your drive but will also recover your files with its in-lab data recovery service at no extra cost. it’s impressive stuff that helps to separate it from the other competitors on test.
