FUJIFILM INSTAX MINI 40 LAUNCHED – STYLE AND FUNCTION ON A BUDGET
Fujifilm officially launches a new retro instant camera
After Fujifilm accidentally leaked images ahead of the official unveil, the Instax Mini 40 has now been announced for the record. Pitched as a homage to classic film photography, the new instant camera has a retro design and, according to Fujifilm, fills the position of the Instax range’s entry-level model.
The camera had been teased on social media since the beginning of April with #mini40. The Instax Mini 40 follows in the footsteps of the Instax Mini 11, being almost identical in specification. It features the same 60mm f/12.7 lens, 1/2 to 1/250 sec shutter speed range and the same close-up/selfie shooting modes, enabled by pulling out the lens. The latter allows a minimum focus distance of between 0.3-0.5 metres.
The differences seem to be largely in the exterior design – the Mini 40 receives a textured leatherette grip around the body and silver embellishments. Furthermore the new camera is smaller at only 104×121×65mm.
Launched alongside the Mini 40 is Instax’s new ‘Contact Sheet’ mini film. The camera is competitively priced at only $100/£90. INSTAX.COM/MINI40/EN
