UNDERSTAND T-STOPS
While most photographic lenses are assigned an f/stop, such as f/2.8, this is not necessarily a reliable brightness reference when shooting video. F/numbers do not indicate true light transmission (some light is reflected off the front lens element and doesn’t reach the sensor). This can mean two consecutive clips have a slightly different exposure, which can prove a costly post-processing correction for a feature length production. T-stops (T for transmission) are a universal standard, corrected for errors – an arguably unnecessary expense for stills but helpful for videography.
