THE AUDIENCE FOR SERIOUS PHOTOGRAPHY IS GETTING BIGGER ALL THE TIME

- LAUREN SCOTT, EDITOR lauren.scott@futurenet.com

The quote above comes from renowned documentary photographer Martin Parr, who we are delighted to feature in our interview this month (p74). Martin recognises that there are more advanced shooters out there than ever, but becoming serious about photography can often mean learning from a pro, which is why we always ask the experts to share their advice with us.

This issue, we get invited into the studio of Canon pro Jade Keshia Gordon as she gives her top tips for shooting inclusive fashion portraits (p14), while travel and editorial photographer Jordan Banks walks us through his workflow for lifestyle imagery (p22).

Lifestyle is a common term, but the genre is about much more than shooting natural portraits. In the feature, find out how to create the authentic scenes that clients are looking for, with guidance on every stage, from the prep work to the shoot itself and, finally, the delivery and presentation of your work.

Also inside, we cast an expert eye over action cameras, devices that have developed massively in the last few years to become solid pro tools in their own right across all genres. From p36, discover how to choose, set up and accessorise your action cam, plus a few projects to get you inspired.

Photography is as much about inspiration as it is perspiration, so turn to p82 to see the winners of this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.

Lastly, we test four of the best street lenses (p96) – compact 35mm primes that are ideal for scenes on the fly – plus the Sigma fp L (p104). Enjoy the issue, but don’t take your photography too seriously.
