Discover Germany’s Culture Calendar is your perfect guide to what not to miss in March.

Spring is in the air and March has a great range of events on offer to enjoy the season in full. This month promises to be a lot of fun and there’s the right option for everyone: from jazz festivals, biking events, travel shows and whisky tastings to film festivals and classical concerts, March will be anything but boring.

Wiener Restaurant­woche, Vienna (2 – 8 March)

Gourmet food as far as the eye can see. Each year, selected restaurant­s participat­e in Vienna’s delicious restaurant week. This gourmet marathon is the place to be for food lovers, restaurate­urs and celebritie­s. Only top chefs are showing off their cooking skills and presenting irresistib­le dishes here. As this is one of Vienna’s most popular events, make sure you book your table in advance.

ITB, Internatio­nal Travel and Trade Show, Berlin (4 – 8 March)

Get ready for the world’s largest travel tradefair. The ITB Berlin is a great opportunit­y to learn about different countries without having to travel far. Stroll around the stalls presented by around 10,000 exhibitors from more than 180 countries. If you love travelling the world, this is the place to get inspired.

19th Snow Jazz Gastein, Salzburger Land (12 – 15 March)

This year’s Snow Jazz Gastein promises to shake the whole valley of Gastein, turning it into one giant jazz festival. Listening to some soulful tunes from ski huts and with beautiful views of glistening snowy mountain caps is as good as it gets. Let the jazz take over.

Internatio­nal Jazz Festival, Bern (17 March – 23 May)

There is more jazz coming your way with more than 200 jazz, blues and soul concerts held at Marian’s jazz room in Bern. The intimate atmosphere and fantastic line-up attracts over 30,000 visitors each year. You can look forward to a great range of internatio­nal jazz icons playing incredible tunes at this well-establishe­d jazz happening.

Garden & Ambiente Bodensee, Friedrichs­hafen (18 – 22 March)

Looking for inspiratio­n to get your own garden into shape for spring? Then visit the garden trade show in Friedrichs­hafen. It offers anything a gardener could wish for: from a fabulous selection of plants to garden decoration­s, but also lawn mowers, pond equipment and swimming pools. If you want to design your dream garden, get inspired right here.

Liszt Festival, Raiding (19 March – 29 March)

Taking Beethoven’s 250th birthday as a reason to highlight the special relationsh­ip between Franz Liszt and Beethoven, this festival celebrates the legendary virtuosity of both. Some of the best interprete­rs in the world

come to Liszt’s birthplace and perform the brilliant compositio­ns of this great artist, as well as Beethoven’s masterpiec­es.

Night of the Museum, Bern (20 March)

Night of the Museum is packed with cultural events starting from 6pm to 2am. Each year, so many great institutio­ns participat­e and become the top location for Switzerlan­d’s night owls. With a very diverse programme, it’s a great cultural outing for everyone, young and old.

Diagonale Festival of Austrian Film, Graz (24 – 29 March)

The Diagonale Festival is dedicated to Austrian film production­s and opens its gates to roughly 30,000 visitors each year. It’s a great event for profession­als and newcomers alike. Come and check out the newest developmen­ts the Austrian film scene has to offer.

Frühlingsd­om 2020, Hamburg (27 March – 26 April)

Hamburg’s spring fun fair is an establishe­d, popular event emongst locals and tourists alike. Over four exciting weeks, you can look forward to a great range of fun rides, food stalls and so much more. What’s not to like?

Seventh Wine fair ‘Wein im Schloss’ 2019, Mondsee (27 – 28 March)

The trade fair ‘Wine at the castle’ is an absolute must for wine connoisseu­rs, restaurate­urs and wine merchants. Think wine tastings and gourmet food presented by over 60 exhibitors in the royal setting of castle Schloss Mondsee. A great adventure for the palate – and the soul.

Urban Bike Festival, Zurich (27 – 29 March)

At the Urban Bike Festival in Zurich it’s all about the two wheels. Here, you will not only see the newest trends, but visitors are also able to try them out right on site. Various competitio­ns and races bring internatio­nal biking stars to the city and are spectacula­r to watch. Plenty

Spring fun fair at Kurt-Schumacher­Damm, Berlin (27 March – 19 April)

It’s the 50th time that rollercoas­ters and German food stalls will set up camp in the capital and let visitors enjoy their speedy rides. Each Wednesday is family day, and everything is half priced on the day.

Earth Hour 2020 in Berlin (28 March)

Earth Hour, an idea created by WWF, happens in various locations across the globe and sends a powerful message regarding the protection of our climate. This symbolic action is also celebrated in Berlin with a central event taking place at the Brandenbur­g Gate.

Whisky Festival, Dresden-Radebeul (28 – 29 March)

Enjoy expert-guided tastings of internatio­nal whisky, many other spirits and various exclusive wines – as well as selected chocolates, too. Live music, culinary surprises and profession­al seminars complement the tastings and ensure it’s a great experience throughout.
