Even the glasses and gift-wrap­pings are unique. The patented round glass, for ex­am­ple, is shaped in a way that makes it pos­si­ble to scrape out even the last bit of honey with a spoon. “Another glass is adorned with a pa­per cut­ting de­signed by a lo­cal artist,”says Irene Schier, who runs the busi­ness to­gether with her hus­band Prof Dr Felix Schier.

Dr Felix Schier’s love for honey is rooted in a fam­ily tra­di­tion: his grand­fa­ther was a bee­keeper, who ate a large spoon of honey every day and al­ways shared some with his grand­son. Dr Felix Schier was a pe­di­atric sur­geon, and when he bought honey while trav­el­ling, he could not find any in­for­ma­tion about pro­ducer or land of ori­gin. This led him to ful­fill­ing his dream of pro­duc­ing a pure and gen­uine honey – just like his grand­fa­ther did.
