Archery as the key to a company’s DNA
“Everything my clients experience in my seminars, I have encountered myself. The first time I drew a bow, my heart started beating faster; I was overcome by joy, disappointment, relief – a whole range of varied emotions. You could call this experience my initiation. At this moment I decided to combine bow work with my systemic consulting work and to transfer it to entrepreneurial processes, ”recalls Annette Birkholz, founder of the Bogenakademie Berlin.
As an expert for learning and transformation processes, Birkholz has been offering her method of ‘systemic archery’ for more than ten years, to companies and organisations all across Europe. Small, mediumsized and global players alike benefit from her knowledge of leadership issues and change processes.
“Despite my clients’ diversity, their core questions remain the same: How do I find my way in a continually changing world? What kind of responsibilities do I have towards myself, my team and the company? Am I connected? Am I growing?”
Bow units are an excellent approach to address these questions. “The bow provides us with the opportunity to connect on a deeper level. It makes inner processes observable, and thus open to discussion and change. The bow is our mirror: we move through life, lead a team or company in the same way we draw the bow.”
Bow work in teams is a co-creative learning process. “To actually witness how people and colleagues grow together as a community in a short period of time and release their arrows simultaneously and without a command is a lasting experience. The reflection about this experience and its transmission into everyday work is very hands-on. Even years later, my clients still speak of this experience. I consider it a huge privilege to facilitate these transformations.”
For a company to maintain a strong position in volatile times, it is always worthwhile to critically examine its corporate culture and leadership issues. Unusual approaches can help.
