A Matter of Affinity – Love and Sexuality in the 18th Century

-

The Swiss National Museum Château de Prangins, which is located between Lausanne and Geneva, launches its new exhibition A Matter of Affinity this month. It explores love and sexuality in the 18th century and gives some great insights into daily life back then.

Château de Prangins is a true highlight for visitors all year round. Built in the 1730s, the beautiful castle hosted legendary personalities such as Voltaire and Joseph Bonaparte. Today, it’s an impressive museum featuring a permanent exhibition, which shows what life at the castle looked like in the 18th century and highlights interesting parts of Swiss history.

The new exhibition A Matter of Affinity runs from 5 April to 11 October 2020 and explores everything around the issues of love, marriage, passion and sexuality. Marketing gurus tell us that ‘sex sells’ but was that already the case back then? The points of view of the famous expert in that area, Casanova, are used to help illustrate everything in the quest to find answers. Different artefacts and utensils are presented to visitors in a whole new light.

A fascinating glimpse into the romantic customs and etiquettes in the 18th century.
