Stuff that’s caught DIVA’S eye plus a word from Ruth Hunt

Diva (UK) - - Welcome -

Over the last 25 years Stonewall has worked for legal equality for lesbian, gay and bisexual people. There are times when we’ve had to keep it simple and start from the beginning; explaining for instance that some people are gay, and we really do feel that folk should start getting over it. Lesbians and bisexual women have played a crucial role in this rapid period of social and legal change, often putting our resources and energies towards securing laws that had no impact on us directly (such as the equal age of consent). We knew we were part of a bigger movement working towards equality. Our challenges are now more nuanced. We have to explain that a lesbian can be a lesbian even if she has children. That a bisexual woman is still bisexual if she marries a man. Trans women, lesbians and bisexual women have something unique to add to the discussions about gender inequality. We can learn from each other, celebrate our differences and join together to shine a light on inequalities. That’s why I was proud to announce that Stonewall will now become an LGBT charity. We achieve more together than apart. And if we are truly going to end hatred and bigotry against us, we need to stand together too. Stonewall will stand up to transphobia, homophobia and biphobia, wherever and whoever it comes from. We won’t be bystanders. If you want to help us, join the movement for acceptance without exception. stonewall.org.uk @ruth_hunt
