Dear Radio Times (cc DIVA), Ok, you can tell them to stop now. We’ve got the message. I told my wife-to be-that we will have to cancel our wedding. We have agreed that we will no longer be ecstatically happy but live our sad(ish) lives together as best we can... Oh, and we will look out for cars as they seem to be the downfall of lesbians, no matter where or what era we live in. Heidi Thomas, as creator of Call The Midwife, if you wanted to “move the drama along” or whatever reason you give for writing the third negative ending to a lesbian or gay character on TV in two months, you could have written what actually did happen to women with female partners. If they ended up in hospital, their partners were often excluded from knowing anything that was happening to them. You are covering major issues of the time, so don’t banish happy lesbians back to their families with loss of memory. My wife was delivered by a midwife who lived in a rural village with her girlfriend, and the village knew all about them. They lived happily ever after. It can be done.

Six months.

It helps me imagine my future. In France we have no images of lesbian couples in the media. And it is very hard to trust that living a “normal” life is possible when nobody tells you that. Marriage was legalised recently in France but still we have no pictures of ceremonies; I can find that in DIVA. DIVA shows me the way… thank you.

More stories about lesbian couples in their 40s. More about how children of lesbian couples handle school.
