GIFTED Dir Marc Webb

What can we say – a highly gifted sevenyear-old girl is being raised by her uncle and then her mathematical genius mother shows up, wanting to regain custody. Uncle doesn’t want his young niece to go off like his sister to an academically challenging school and fights for a “normal life” for her. The tropes might be wellworn and the direction a little obvious but stay with me; a young girl has to fight her caretakers to achieve her dream and become her true, authentic self – whatever the cliches – this is a lesbian story and I’m a sucker for it. #LEZZGO In cinemas 16 June
