Dorset’s very own ‘Spice Girl’ Sarah Ali Choud­hury has been awarded Per­son­al­ity of the Year at the pres­ti­gious Asian Curry Awards. The new cat­e­gory recog­nised Sarah’s unique back­ground as a fe­male chef and mother in a pre­dom­i­nately male in­dus­try. Sarah’s dad Rafique Choud­hury, owner of the Taj Ma­hal restau­rant in Brid­port was recog­nised for his life­time con­tri­bu­tion with the ac­co­lade Knights of the Raj, while the fam­ily’s restau­rant was awarded Highly Com­mended in the South West

The in­de­pen­dent awards were launched to hon­our and bring pub­lic recog­ni­tion for the achieve­ments and pos­i­tive con­tri­bu­tions of those work­ing in tourism, re­tail and hospi­tal­ity in the BH post­code ar­eas – Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Wim­borne, plus the sur­round­ing towns and vil­lages. Once the short lists are drawn up, a cel­e­bra­tory semi-fi­nal­ist event will fol­low for in­vited guests. The awards will cul­mi­nate with a gala din­ner in March 2019. Arts launched their first-ever Crowd­fun­der cam­paign to sup­port their 2019 project

They have al­ready raised £5,000 and are well on the way to hit­ting their next tar­get of £7,500.

is a mu­si­cal cel­e­bra­tion de­scrib­ing the dra­matic events of the Apollo 11 space mis­sion in July 1969. Over this year Dorch­ester Arts will work with the cre­ator, lo­cal com­poser Geof Edge, as well as writ­ers, pro­duc­ers and mu­si­cians on a spec­tac­u­lar out­door per­for­mance by Dorch­ester’s chil­dren (and adults) to cel­e­brate this lu­nar an­niver­sary.

The per­for­mance on 19 July will be the cen­tre­piece of a week­end of out­door moon­re­lated cel­e­bra­tions in ‘Moon­bury Rings’ which will in­clude a 7-me­tre di­am­e­ter il­lu­mi­nated sculp­ture of the moon, an out­door cin­ema, and a fam­ily science day.
