Dorset’s very own ‘Spice Girl’ Sarah Ali Choudhury has been awarded Personality of the Year at the prestigious Asian Curry Awards. The new category recognised Sarah’s unique background as a female chef and mother in a predominately male industry. Sarah’s dad Rafique Choudhury, owner of the Taj Mahal restaurant in Bridport was recognised for his lifetime contribution with the accolade Knights of the Raj, while the family’s restaurant was awarded Highly Commended in the South West

The independent awards were launched to honour and bring public recognition for the achievements and positive contributions of those working in tourism, retail and hospitality in the BH postcode areas – Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Wimborne, plus the surrounding towns and villages. Once the short lists are drawn up, a celebratory semi-finalist event will follow for invited guests. The awards will culminate with a gala dinner in March 2019. Arts launched their first-ever Crowdfunder campaign to support their 2019 project
They have already raised £5,000 and are well on the way to hitting their next target of £7,500.
is a musical celebration describing the dramatic events of the Apollo 11 space mission in July 1969. Over this year Dorchester Arts will work with the creator, local composer Geof Edge, as well as writers, producers and musicians on a spectacular outdoor performance by Dorchester’s children (and adults) to celebrate this lunar anniversary.
The performance on 19 July will be the centrepiece of a weekend of outdoor moonrelated celebrations in ‘Moonbury Rings’ which will include a 7-metre diameter illuminated sculpture of the moon, an outdoor cinema, and a family science day. For more details or to donate go to dorchesterarts.org.uk.
