A sex at­tacker is be­hind bars af­ter the“dis­grace­ful” rape and abuse of a teenage girl.

Don­ald McGil­l­vary preyed on his young vic­tim for more than four years.

The 37-year-old had de­nied the crimes which oc­curred in An­nan.

But, McGil­l­vary was found guilty on Thurs­day fol­low­ing a trial at the High Court in Glas­gow.

Lord Clark told him: “You have been con­victed of the sex­ual as­sault of a child when she was 12 and the re­peated rape when she was aged 13 to 16. “This was dis­grace­ful and ab­hor­rent be­hav­iour.” The judge re­manded McGil­l­vary, of Dum­fries, in cus­tody as sen­tenc­ing was de­ferred for re­ports. He was placed on the sex of­fend­ers list mean­time. McGil­l­vary showed no emo­tion as he was led hand­cuffed to the cells.

Af­ter the ver­dict, Lord Clark told ju­rors the case had been “dis­tress­ing and un­pleas­ant”.

■ A 67-year-old man has been banned from driv­ing for 12 months af­ter be­ing found at the wheel with nearly dou­ble the per­mit­ted drink-drive limit.

Wil­liam Watkin, of St Michael’s Street, Dum­fries, was also fined £300 at Dum­fries Sher­iff Court when he ad­mit­ted com­mit­ting the of­fence in March last year at Gled­hill Cres­cent at Lochar­briggs.

He also ad­mit­ted be­hav­ing in a threat­en­ing or abu­sive man­ner to­wards two oth­ers, chal­leng­ing one to fight, mak­ing deroga­tory com­ments and re­peat­edly sound­ing the horn of his car.

He was also fined £200 for fail­ing to ap­pear in court in May.

■ A 45-year-old man has been re­manded in cus­tody af­ter mak­ing his fourth ap­pear­ance be­fore the sher­iff at Dum­fries in ten days.

Peter McPhillips, of St Ninian’s Road, Mof­fat, pleaded guilty to be­hav­ing in a threat­en­ing or abu­sive man­ner at his home and at the Lore­burn Street Po­lice Sta­tion in Dum­fries on Novem­ber 28, shout­ing and swear­ing at of­fi­cers and act­ing in an ag­gres­sive man­ner.

Sen­tence was de­ferred to De­cem­ber 19 to be dealt with along­side other mat­ters.

■ A fine of £700 has been im­posed on a 35-year-old woman who was caught driv­ing while nearly four times the drink-drive limit.

Mar­ian Maximet, from Manch­ester, ad­mit­ted com­mit­ting the of­fence near Kirk­patrick Park on the A76 road on Novem­ber 2. She was also banned from driv­ing for 12 months.

■ A 30-year-old man who be­haved in a threat­en­ing or abu­sive man­ner in Mof­fat has been fined £180 at Dum­fries Sher­iff Court.

Christo­pher McNeill, of El­lis­land Drive, Dum­fries, pleaded guilty to shout­ing and mak­ing threats of vi­o­lence at School Lane in Mof­fat in March.

■ A 30-year-old man is to face trial at Dum­fries Sher­iff court on a charge of steal­ing a quan­tity of ra­zor blades from a lo­cal store.

Kyle McWil­liam, of Wal­lamhill Road, Lochar­briggs, pleaded not guilty to com­mit­ting the of­fence at Mor­risons store in July.

Trial has been set for March.

■ A 39-year-old man ac­cused of punc­tur­ing four tyres on a car, has lodged a spe­cial de­fence of alibi at Dum­fries Sher­iff Court.

Justin Robinson, of Crif­fel Court, Dum­fries, will stand trial in De­cem­ber on a charge of com­mit­ting the of­fence at nearby Ash­field Drive with a sharp in­stru­ment last Jan­uary.

■ A man who be­haved in a threat­en­ing or abu­sive man­ner in Dum­fries, has been fined £200 at the town’s Sher­iff Court.

Gary McLeod, of Dal­swin­ton Av­enue, Dum­fries, ad­mit­ted bran­dish­ing a metal bar and en­gag­ing in a fight at nearby Lochside Road in Septem­ber.
