Con­sort has two fundrais­ing per­for­mances

The Bal­liol Con­sort’s con­cert of sea­sonal cho­ral mu­sic and read­ings will def­i­nitely fill you with the Christ­mas spirit.

The con­cert – Rise Up, Shep­herd – will take place in Dun­score Parish Church on Tues­day, De­cem­ber 11, and in The Usual Place, Dum­fries, the fol­low­ing Tues­day.

Di­rected by well known lo­cal mu­si­cian Mike Sten­house, the choir will per­form un­ac­com­pa­nied cho­ral mu­sic rang­ing from the 16th to the 21st cen­turies, in­clud­ing pieces by Sweel­inck, Vaughan Wil­liams, Cor­nelius and John Rut­ter.

There will also be pop­u­lar ar­range­ments of tra­di­tional car­ols and sev­eral mod­ern works by com­posers such as Mal­colm Archer, Will Todd, Ken Bur­ton and the Nor­we­gian Ola Gjeilo.

In­ter­spersed with the mu­sic will be read­ings by mem­bers of the group and also three com­mu­nity car­ols.

The con­certs are in aid of Dun­score kirk and The Usual Place. Both con­certs be­gin at 7.30pm and there is an ad­mis­sion charge, al­though chil­dren go free.
