French songs to opera highlights
Barbara and Michal plan varied programme
Leading coloratura soprano Barbara Cole Walton and her accompanist, pianist Michal Gajzler, are to be the next guests of Lockerbie Music Society.
Their programme is set to delight the audience and will include relaxing French songs, show-stopping operatic highlights, nostalgic trips down Rodgers & Hammerstein lane, show songs and many more.
Barbara Cole Walton comes from Vancouver Island, Canada, and moved to Glasgow in 2011 to do post-graduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She fell in love with the city and never left.
She holds an MMus in opera (distinction), an MMus in vocal performance from the Royal Conservatoire and a BMus in vocal performance from the University of Victoria, Canada.
As a freelance, she finds her time split between recitals, concert work and opera.
Her 2018/19 season sees the tail-end of the Diva Opera summer tour of Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
Earlier this year, Barbara sang the part of the controller in Scottish Opera’s production of Flight and covered the parts of both Naiad and Echo in their production of Ariadne auf Naxos. She has also performed at the New Generation Festival in Florence, Italy, and runs singing studios in the south side of Glasgow and in Helensburgh.
Michal returns to the Lockerbie society following his concert in the town last December.
Raised in Poland, he moved to Scotland in 2013 when he became the accompanist for Aria Alba – Opera for All. He graduated in 2010 with an MMus in piano performance from the Krakow Academy of Music and an MA in musicology from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.
His operatic experience includes performing on piano for Aria Alba on performances of Die Zauberflöte, Die Fledermaus and Semele. He has also performed with the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar and Kent Opera.
He recently graduated with a Master of Music in repetiteurship from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Alexander Gibson Opera School. His répétiteur experience at the RCS includes The Bear and Owen Wingrave.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy what promises to be an excellent and varied performance.
It will be held at Somerton House Hotel in Lockerbie on Tuesday, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets can be bought that evening at the door, with reduced rates for students and free entry for schoolchildren.
There is disabled access at the venue.
