Tight at the top

Dumfries & Galloway Standard - - MOTORS -

Week 12 results in the Dumfries Seniors Snooker Association:

Albert B 1 Sands Gold 3; Annan Ex A 4 Locharbriggs D 0; Bluebell A 3 Locharbriggs B 1; Locharbriggs A 3 Bluebell 1; Locharbriggs C 0 Annan Ex 4; Sands Auto 1 Albert A 3; Sands Silver 2 Albert C 2.

The results leave the top of the table unchanged with Locharbriggs A, Bluebell A and Albert A all sitting on 16 points with a game in hand on leaders Sands Gold who sit top of the pile on 23 points.

Albert B did dent Sands Gold, taking a game off them courtesy of Les Shearer who significantly beat Roy Hanley to end his unbeaten run this season.

Other than that it was business as usual notably from Paul Jamieson, the highlight of which was a well taken 48 break. Also high in the break stakes was Willie McCubbin of Locharbriggs A who slotted in a handy 42 to put clear blue water between him and his Bluebell opponent helping to secure the eventual 3-1 win to keep the Dumfries side in the hunt.

At the other end of the table it is perhaps surprising that both the Albert B and Albert C teams have not shown a better account of themselves after 11 games which find them on a paltry six and seven points respectively. They are better teams than results would suggest and will surely wish to improve greatly on their situation as the season progresses.

Strugglers Sands Auto and Locharbriggs C are currently propping the rest of the league up and there is little sign this will change in the near future, however, on their day both these sides are capable of upsetting so called better teams.

As we approach the Christmas break and the half way stage of the season there are few surprises with the usual suspects dominating the division. Time and results will tell if there is a contender to mount a serious assault on Sands Gold’s crown.
