Medal success at Swedish championship events
A martial arts team is celebrating after a tremendous medal haul in Sweden.
The World Martial Arts Council UK squad, which included members from Dumfries and Galloway, were competing in the Swedish Kickboxing and WorldMac Swedish Taekwondo Cup at the same time last week with both tournaments taking place over four days.
UK came home with seven gold, nine silver and three bronze medals. Sixteen of the 19 students made it into the finals of the Kickboxing Championships where they were up against students from Sweden, Switzerland, Algeria, Greece and Italy among others.
It was a similar story for the Taekwondo Cup with each student competing in either Poomsae solo, pair or team forms as well as the sparring section of the championships.
Out of 28 competitors they scored 22 gold medals along with silver and bronze medals as well as winning club of the championships.
World Mac president Anne Armstrong, of Dumfries, said: “It was an outstanding championships. I’m proud of each and every kid that competed. WorldMac has many talented young students in it the UK team.
“We all look forward to another successful 2019 year as we head to Turkey in April and our UK Championships then back to Sweden in November 2019.”
