Man causes £1000 damage to boy racer’s car
Dumfries man Edward McVittie was so incensed at boy racers revving up in a supermarket car par that he caused more than £1,000 damage to a vehicle.
The incident flared on June 9 last year inTesco’s car park at Cuckoo Bridge when McVittie stormed across to confront the drivers.
He was charged with repeatedly shouting and swearing, striking and damaging vehicles and uttering threats to kill.
McVittie, of Lincluden Road, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing and he appeared in Dumfries Sheriff Court for sentencing.
The court heard how McVittie had been of good behaviour .
McVittie’s defence lawyer, Vicky Urquhart, said: “I understand the damage could not be seen by police at night and they asked for the damage to be checked in the morning.
“There was two small dents in the middle of the bonnet and it does seem quite a vast expense for two small dents in a bonnet.
“Mr McVittie was angry and upset about young drivers in the area which had made the local Press on a number of occasions.
“He had consumed alcohol and after hearing revving engines which were causing noise he had gone over and remonstrated with them.”
Sheriff Colm Dempsey fined Mcvittie £150.
