Music from silver screen will be highlight of concert
Annan Town Band are staging a glittering concert inspired by music from the silver screen at St John’s Church in Dumfries on Saturday, May 18.
It will be lights, camera, action from 7.30pm with a programme of music from some of the world’s most popular films and musicals in Annan Town Band: A Night at the Movies, led by musical director Lewis Wilkinson. The band will joined by a special guest choir conducted by Jamie Brand MBE. Charlotte MacKay, Annan Town Band’s communications officer, said: “From Disney to Bond and from Barbie to B-movies, there will be something for everyone in a programme that covers every genre of cinema.
“Our last two spring concerts in Dumfries have proved to be hugely popular and we’re delighted to be returning to St John’s Church next weekend, we always get such a warm welcome from audiences there.
“Brass bands have a reputation for being a bit old fashioned, which simply isn’t the case anymore. We really hope that our movie-themed programme will attract audience members who might never have been to one of our concerts before so we can showcase exactly what modern brass bands have to offer - award-winning soloists, exciting music, and what is sure to be a very entertaining evening.”
Annan Town Band attracts players from across Dumfries and Galloway and northern Cumbria and is the region’s highest ranked brass band, having enjoyed an unprecedented run of recent competition success.
The band is also a registered charity committed to promoting the benefits of brass banding and community music, and with support from musical director Lewis Wilkinson, they hope to expand their appeal beyond traditional brass band audiences.
