October date set for new business hub in Maygate

-

THE delayed opening of a £300,000 hub offering office space for businesses and individuals in Dunfermline city centre could take place in October.

It had been hoped that the Maygate Exchange, at 13-15 Maygate, would open in June but time taken to appoint contractors to install broadband and wifi as well as secure tenancy agreements with potential customers have seen the date put back.

The building, last used as a temporary library while the Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries was revamped, has been transformed into a high-spec space with private offices and hot desks which will be available to rent.

There’s also a boardroom for any organisations wanting to hold meetings, a kitchen and accessible toilet facility.

Sunil Varu, business development manager for Dunfermline, said the hub would give people – and businesses – an alternative to homeworking without having to undergo a commute.

“We now have an office space fit for a city centre. It could stand on its own in Edinburgh or Glasgow or Aberdeen,” he said. “We are on track to open. All the protocols we are having to go through are being done.

“We have had to go through the formal procedures which has taken a bit of time. We are onto the final bits and pieces that we need to be sorted out. Fingers crossed, by the end of October, we should be ready with all the tenancy agreements and the companies can move in. What we want to do is get the office space allocated and get people in then we will look at the hot desk side of things.”
