Pupils ‘wired to the moon’ after visit from author
PRIMARY school pupils were “wired to the moon” in Inverkeithing after a visit from award-winning children’s author Stuart Reid.
Youngsters were introduced to the writer’s novels, which include tales of the ‘Incredible Iron-Bru
Man’ and ‘zit-faced zombies’.
It was the final event in a week full of literature-themed fun to celebrate the opening of their newly-revamped library.
Headteacher Caroline Gardiner told the Press: “We had ‘Roald Dahl Day’, we love Roald Dahl, it was an excuse to celebrate him.
“The kids could dress up as their favourite characters, or a lot of us chose to wear yellow as that was his favourite colour, or you could just enjoy a dress-down day.
“Our last event was from Stuart Reid, he gave a special assembly, introduced his books, signed copies, talked about being an author for the past 10 years and inspired us all to write books one day! They (the pupils) loved it, they were wired to the moon, he writes stories about all these difference fun characters, they were laughing the whole way through.”
Each class has also been given a chance to attend a book fair and Caroline says students have been eager to bring in their hard-earned pocket money to spend.
All money raised will help go towards filling the new library, which has been moved and extended thanks to help from teachers, parents, and staff.
“We started the project at the end of last term,” Caroline continued.
“We now have lots more room and we are so grateful for all the help, especially Michelle Fearnley and Diana Ostrom, who have been instrumental. Lots of people gave up their time over the summer holidays to make it happen.”
