Schoolgirl Chloe receives royal thank you days before Queen’s death

-

A DUNFERMLINE schoolgirl got a poignant message from the Queen just days before the monarch’s death was announced.

Six-year-old Chloe Thornton was delighted to receive a thank you card after she had sent a postcard to her while on holiday in Eyemouth over the Platinum Jubilee weekend in June.

Nana Diane McRoberts and grandad Sean had taken the Touch Primary pupil away over the celebratory long weekend.

“We were in Eyemouth and were watching the concert in our Airbnb and she asked why the Queen wasn’t there,” explained Diane.

“I said she wasn’t well and she said that’s really, really sad, do you think I could send her a postcard?

“She posted it and wrote ‘I am really sorry you are missing your concert and are not well’ and signed it from Chloe, age six, and put in her address at the bottom.”

The family were amazed to have a reply pop through Chloe’s Woodmill Place letterbox on Monday.

The card, with a photo of Queen Elizabeth on the front, said: “I send you my grateful thanks for your kind message on the occasion of the Seventieth Anniversary of my Accession to the Throne” and was signed by Elizabeth R, 2022.

“We were really gobsmacked,” said Diane.

“That was June that she sent it and she just got it on Monday.

“It was a huge card saying thank you for being so kind and a picture of the queen.

“She was thrilled with it – she took it into school on Tuesday and was really proud of it.

“She was sad to hear the news on Thursday. It seems so much more poignant now.

“It is probably one of the last things with the Queen on it.”
