Former Motherwell defender Denham is new Rosyth boss

-

ROSYTH have confirmed the appointment of former Motherwell defender Greig Denham as their new manager.

The East of Scotland League, First Division outfit announced yesterday (Wednesday) that the 45-yearold had taken charge, with former Clydebank and Ayr United striker Steve Kerrigan joining as his assistant manager.

Denham and Kerrigan met the Rosyth squad on Tuesday evening, when they took their first training session, and will be in the dugout for Saturday’s home match with Glenrothes.

Their appointments come after the club’s co-managers, Russell Craig and Dean Ogg, decided to step away from their on-field role in order to take up new positions on the club’s committee.

A Rosyth statement that confirmed their decision said that the pair would be driving a “large-scale project” off the pitch, which is understood to involve pushing forward attempts to find a new home for the team.

In April 2018, Rosyth moved out of their former base at Recreation Park, on Admiralty Road, after Fife Council agreed to sell the land for a Lidl supermarket, with a like-for-like replacement pitch and facilities to be provided for the club.

Neither has yet to be delivered – Rosyth are currently playing at the Fleet Grounds – and that, combined with a run of results that have left Rosyth bottom of the table, led to Craig and Ogg stepping aside.

After his playing career, Denham has managed with Camelon Juniors and Glenafton, while Kerrigan has also been involved in the dugout at both of those clubs, as well as with Bo’ness United and Linlithgow Rose.

“We wanted to get this right,” Craig told Press Sport.

“The committee spoke to Greig, and he just ticked all the right boxes. He took Camelon to second in the Super League (former East Region juniors), managed Glenafton, and I think he and Steve are good pals, and come as a complete package.

“I’m really looking forward to it all, and Greig will get all the support he needs.”

In a statement, the club said: “Following a number of enquiries, Rosyth FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Greig Denham as our new manager.

“Greig brings with him a wealth of experience as a professional player, having played for Motherwell in the top flight, as well as going on to play for Falkirk, St Mirren, Arbroath, East Stirlingshire and Stenhousemuir. He also won the Scottish Junior Cup and Super League with Linlithgow Rose.

“After his playing retirement, Greig furthered his footballing career in management at Camelon, Stenhousemuir reserves and, latterly, Glenafton.

“Greig will be joined by Steve ‘Kegs’ Kerrigan as assistant manager. Kegs’ playing career saw him play for a number of clubs, including Albion Rovers, Clydebank, Ayr United, Shrewsbury Town and Halifax Town, to name but a few.

“Kegs is no stranger to management, having been involved with Camelon, Arthurlie, Bo’ness United, Glenafton and, most recently, Linlithgow Rose.”
