Dunfermline firm building community links after takeover
A DUNFERMLINE firm has been building up community links since opening up in the city centre.
Builders’ merchant MKM took over Woodrow/Rowan Timber earlier this year and has since invested around £200,000 in transforming its Elgin
Street site.
Branch director Wullie Wightman said his 15-strong team had been working hard on their new premises and on helping local causes.
They are sponsors of Duloch FC’s 2013 team, sponsor the boots and kit of Dunfermline ladies’ player Rachel King, have a sponsorship package with the Pars and are just set to finalise a deal with Dunfermline Rugby Club.
They will also host the MKM Christmas Charity Dinner event in the Glen Pavilion in December in aid of Dunfermline youngster Jamie Tierney, whose fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) has been reported by the Press.
“One of the guys went to school with Jamie’s dad and he told me the story and we wanted to help,” he explained.
The firm was also on hand to help after the attack on the peacocks in Pittencrieff Park earlier this year.
“The week we opened, there was the news that there had been the attack and they reached out and said could we do anything to help them,” said Wullie. “So we decided there and then we would give them everything they needed. We immediately delivered, free of charge, £1,500 of fencing material allowing the park to create a safe pen for the birds overnight.
“It has been a bit of a journey over the last four months but what we have been doing as well is getting to the heart of the community.”
He continued: “We have been transforming the old Woodrow/Rowan Timber site from its original roots of selling high-quality timber, joinery, sheet materials, decking and fencing to a fully-stocked builders’ merchant specialising in everyday and specialist products for builders, joiners and roofers. We’d encourage the trade and any members of the public with a project to visit our branch to enjoy a free coffee, have a chat about your development/project and you will see for yourself our amazing spirit and and everything we have to offer.”
