Alfredo is the hero as Kelty polish off the Diamonds

- By Ross Hart REPORTER

on the opening day – have left New Central Park with three points, with Dunfermline picking up one, and both Falkirk and Airdrie departing with zero.

Kelty will look to cure their travel sickness in the capital this weekend – they’ve lost all four League One matches on the road – before hosting Queen of the South on Tuesday, and they can do so with justified confidence after a fine performance in this match.

In the opening 20 minutes or so, the visitors looked the more likely, enjoying composed possession and having decent efforts on goal through Lewis Jamieson, playerboss and former Pars player Rhys McCabe, and Euan Deveney.

Gradually, though, the ‘Maroon Machine’ gained a foothold and, after Nicky Low – making his home debut – sent a decent drive over, they came agonisingly close to taking the lead twice within a matter of moments.

Austin, making just his second league start of the season, did brilliantly to lob over Henderson but could only watch as the ball struck the base of the post, denying him his second goal this term as the Diamonds cleared for a corner.

From the resultant delivery, Jason Thomson headed in powerfully at the back post, only for his celebrations to be cut short for what referee Steven Kirkland deemed to be a foul.

Bookings for both Dougie Hill and Joe Cardle in the aftermath suggested it was a harsh decision but Kelty kept at it after the break, with the latter in particular doing his best to find an opener.

In the 68th minute, referee Kirkland ignored what looked to be a strong case for a home penalty when Austin – having pressed Henderson and blocked his clearance – was clattered to the ground by the keeper as he attempted to win the loose ball.

A corner was given instead, with Potter also carded for his protests, but, thankfully, it didn’t cost Kelty.

With five minutes left, Agyeman, introduced moments prior, nicked the ball off his opponent after winning the race to the ball before rounding Henderson and scoring a deserved winner.
