Tattoo artist’s latest design ... is a big green dinosaur for his son

-

A KINCARDINE tattoo artist has visited the land before time to draw up inspiration for his new children’s book.

Inspired by reading to his son, Miles, Deadstar Tattoo Studio owner Scott Mitchell has released ‘Diego the Doodling Dinosaur’, a story which he says is, unintentionally, auto-biographical.

“It is about following your heart. It is what I have always done, I’ve always stayed true to my feelings and what is right,” he told the Press.

“I didn’t realise it was about me until someone said.

“It is about a day in his (Diego’s) life, it’s finding out about the possibilities that following your heart can bring.”

And Scott, who lives in Bathgate but runs the shop in Kincardine, has illustrated the adventure himself while testing out his writing on three-year-old Miles.

“I read a lot of books to him,” he explained.

“I like rhyming books and he enjoys them as well.

“It came naturally to write this story, he’s been reading it and loves it, I even got a plush toy made.

“It was funny. He knows lots, he’s so articulate for his age, he was saying ‘I want to doodle’ which is from the book, I never expected that.

“A lot of parents might relate to that as well.”

The dad didn’t expect to be seeing his name on Amazon – where you can buy the book – but grew more confident when others told him how much they enjoyed his work.

“At first the idea was that it would be for me and my son, I wasn’t planning on bringing it out,” he explained.

“But people were saying ‘It’s better than you think it is’, it has actually spoken to me in a way.

“It is surreal for me, I never thought I was capable, but somehow I have managed it.”
