Pars ladies hit Alloa with a magnificent seven goals

-

DUNFERMLINE Athletic Ladies have moved to within two points of top spot after hitting a magnificent seven against Alloa.

The Pars, who are second in the

Scottish Women’s Football League (SWFL) North / East Division, made the short trip to Clackmannanshire on Sunday having hit the net 17 times in their previous two outings.

A 13-2 success at home to Westdyke Ladies Thistle, in which Alex Davie scored all but three, was followed by a 4-1 win midweek at Forfar Farmington, with Davie netting a hat-trick and Tyler Sibbons claiming the other.

Head coach, Angie Comrie, felt that her side soaked up their opponents’ pressure in the opening half an hour, in what she felt would be a difficult game, before two goals before half-time allowed Athletic to take control and collect another three points.

Sunday’s clash at the Indodrill Stadium was played in tough conditions, but another treble from Davie, as well as a brace from Meg Reilly and goals from Jenna Sexton and Mims Calis, saw them enjoy another fine success.

“It was not a nice afternoon for a game of football, with rainy conditions, but the ladies started positively, scoring after 50 seconds,” Comrie said.

“The game was a little flat after that, but I think that was Alloa not allowing us to play as we wanted, so credit to them.

“After half-time, we made a few changes and a different formation, and started playing and using the width of the pitch really well.

“Alloa’s players were tiring and the goals soon came.

“I was pleased with the way our team kept digging in and wanted to score more goals.

“The scoreline may have been more if it wasn’t for the young Alloa goalkeeper, who made some great saves throughout the game.

“We’ve had three games within a week, and I think that showed in the end.”

Dunfermline, who have played 20 games, one fewer than leaders, East Fife Development, have 46 points, two behind the table-toppers.

The Pars ladies are one point clear of third-top Buchan United Ladies, who have two games in hand.

Comrie’s side do not have a game this weekend, with their attention turning to their Scottish Cup, second round tie at home to Bonnyrigg Rose on November 6.

The Pars defeated Clark Drive Girls in the preliminary round of the competition, and then Drumchapel United in the first round.

Comrie added: “I believe this game will be a close contest as Bonnyrigg are doing well in their respective league.”
