Kingdom Game set to open just outside Crossgates

-

Local business, Woodlea Farm Shop, bakery and café owners have teamed up with their best friend to open a new speciality meat shop, Kingdom Game, in a pleasant, rural spot just outside Crossgates.

Kingdom Game will be specialising in locally sourced and processed wild venison and small game birds such as pheasants and partridges, as well as prime quality beef, pork and lamb.

With 20 years of experience in the area of game keeping, agricultural and wildlife management and the butcher trade, we are proud to bring premium products to your plates from September 15. Our opening times will be Friday to Sunday, 9am-3pm.

Scotland is rich in game available on its fields and we are committed to source venison responsibly. Our venison are not farmed in mass numbers for the consumption of society but they are naturally occurring in larger numbers and so controlling their numbers is essential to prevent overpopulation, protect farmers’ crops, and manage biodiversity of Scotland’s flora and fauna.

We started the search for the ideal place at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, which proved unsuccessful. Last year, however, we found out about this gem, Woodlea, coming onto the property market and we acted immediately.

Our first move was the restoration of the old bakery and farm shop, with our produce selling exceptionally well since our opening on September 30, 2022. We focus on our own sourdough bread, and local produce made in small batches and of high quality – honey, jams, coffee, cheeses, meat and eggs. You will also find a wide selection of fruits and vegetables, with bursting flavours that are worth the price.

At the farm, you can visit our café with both inside and outside seating, kids playground and a small number of animals (alpacas, hens, ducks) that can be fed by customers. We are dog friendly.

The new foot and cycle path on Inverkeithing Road was build in a good time to bring dog walkers and cyclist to the farm. We are ideally located for a coffee and cake to recharge. Being in the heart of Scotland, in the central belt, we are easily approachable from the north or from the south, and the farm is a five-minute drive from the motorways.

Our aim is to create a place like no other in the immediate surrounding area, where you can shop, enjoy a coffee and light bite while the kids play and see animals close up.

Many of our customers are returning several times a week, every week. They look upon us as treat at the weekend, a little trip where there is no rush, an authentic farm shop where you can see the work done on every bit of the business from previous owners to the current.

Our addition of the meat shop is the final step in creating the big picture, and we are looking to welcome you as a regular at Woodlea.
