Primrose dealt third successive defeat as Tynecastle fight back

-

CROSSGATES PRIMROSE slipped to a third successive defeat after Tynecastle fought back to win

Alan Campbell’s side saw their winless run extended to seven matches in the capital, leaving them periously close to the Premier Division drop zone, after a sixth defeat on the road in eight outings this season.

Their only win away from Humbug Park on league business came at Penicuik Athletic in early September, with their only other point being earned at Musselburgh Athletic last month, but they made the best possible start at Meggetland.

Experienced front man, Brian Ritchie, put Primrose ahead after 11 minutes, but goals from Connor Power and Steven Tait turned the match in Tynecastle’s favour.

A penalty from Ryan Cameron in first half stoppage time extended the hosts’ lead at the break, and he then added his second, and his team’s fourth, just shy of the hour mark.

The defeat leaves Crossgates, who entertain Broxburn Athletic this Saturday, 12th, two places above the relegation places, with 11 points from 13 games, just two clear of third-bottom Glenrothes.

Oakley United, meanwhile, saw their scheduled First Division Fife derby with Lochore Welfare postponed, whilst Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts and Rosyth were not in competitive action at the weekend.

Rosyth, however, travelled to St Andrews United last Wednesday evening for an East of Scotland Qualifying Cup, third round tie, but were beaten 4-1. Tam Hampson scored their goal.

Saturday’s fixtures: East of Scotland League, Premier Division: Crossgates Primrose v Broxburn Athletic (1.30pm), Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts v Hill of Beath Hawthorn (2pm). First Division: Blackburn United v Rosyth (2.30pm), Preston Athletic v Oakley United (2.30pm).
