Year in the life of Elmswell fire crew

EADT Suffolk - - UPFRONT -

Elmswell Fire Station has added to its huge fundraising effort of £100,000, by producing a calendar created by firefighter and keen photographer Ruth Reed.

Ruth was a firefighter in the London Fire Brigade from 2001-2015, and joined the Elmswell crew as a retained firefighter in April. “I was completely blown away, not only by the crew’s efforts to help the local community and their achievements – including watch commander Brian Hawes, who initiates much of the fundraising, winning the Queens Fire Service Medal – but by their modesty and sheer love of what they do. All have full time jobs, families, hobbies and other commitments, yet all are willing to give a massive amount of time to help those in need,” she says.

Ruth decided to show her pride in the Elmswell crew and help fundraising by producing a calendar that gives the public an insight to their work. “This year we’ve seen some spectacular fires, due to the extreme summer weather, so I was able to take some impressive shots,” she says. The calendar, sponsored by Falcon Printing Services and other local companies, costs £9.99 (£3.95 p&p). To buy one contact [email protected]folk.gov.uk.
