A blissful treatment at Bathsheba Spa in Woodbridge

It’s such a relief, when you’re short of time, to arrive for an appointment and find you don’t have to hunt for a parking space. Bathsheba Spa is well located in Woodbridge, with the Riverside car park literally on the doorstep, so no arriving hot and flustered after a half-mile sprint.

With the car parked, I stroll a few metres to Bathsheba for my REN ‘Feet As They Should Be’ pedicure. What a treat.

I get a warm welcome from therapist Alise, who’s very attentive and good at putting me at my ease. I accept her offer of a hot drink – herbal tea for me – and a full tour of the spa.

There are two treatment rooms, one with a sizeable bath, traditional massage beds and equipment, the other slightly smaller but certainly ample.

The pedicure area at Bathsheba is truly impressive. Huge comfy chairs raised off the ground to make the pedicure really comfortable and a huge choice of Jessica nail polish colours.

We begin with a lovely warm foot soak as Alise gets to work, filing my nails and working on the cuticles. She also removes hard skin on the bottom of my feet with a foot file and an exfoliating salt scrub.

Alise then applies a luxury foot mask, a balm and oil combination, massaging my feet and legs to increase circulation and restore moisture to the skin. The balms and oils have a wonderful aroma. In fact, this is so relaxing, I could fall asleep. . . and almost do. My legs are soft all day after this and feel amazing.

Next, Alise wraps my feet in plastic and places them into a hot boot. This keeps them warm and keeps in the moisture.

While my feet are staying nice and warm (bliss!), I’m offered either an arm and hand massage or a scalp massage. I choose an arm and hand massage which turns out to be equally relaxing as the leg massage. (More bliss.)

Next, the wrap and boots come off and Alise massages the remaining balm into my legs. She then applies a base coat to my nails, followed by two layers of polish and a top coat, followed by a quick-dry spray. My feet are like new and it’s a shame to hide them away. I make a mental note to do this more often, especially in spring and summer when my feet are rather more on display.

Bathsheba is a hidden treasure in Woodbridge. The facilities are excellent, the decor and ambience are relaxing, the welcome is warm and friendly, and the REN treatments are exceptional.

I’m not surprised to learn that Bathsheba is among the finalists in the London Hair and Beauty Awards 2019 for Day Spa of the Year. October 27 is the big day and I’ll be watching out for them among the winners. ◆
