Names that could inherit cash from unclaimed estates

-

A NUMBER of estates on the east coast of Lincolnshire have been left unclaimed by those who died without leaving a will.

Families in the region could potentially stand to inherit a fortune from those who have passed away. HM Treasury keeps track of all these unclaimed estates but there is a time limit with the money passing to the Crown if no relatives come forward to claim them.

The latest list of unclaimed estates around the whole of the UK totals more than 6,000 - and some of them are from people who died in our region. Some date from as long ago as 1994, with the 30-year limit for making a claim fast approaching.

When a person dies without making a will, in most cases their estate will pass to their next of kin. But this is not always a simple process, especially if no surviving relative comes forward or can be found.

Between half and two-thirds of adults do not have a will. In these cases, spouses, civil partners and close relatives may be able to collect the estate, though they may sometimes have to provide evidence of their relationship.

Here is the list of family names of those estates are unclaimed, as of March 28, 2024.

AN unassuming bar in a characterful Lincolnshire town is serving up some of the best homemade pizzas in the county according to our readers - so we popped down to give it a try.

Harpars Bar in Horncastle was named as one of the best places for a pizza in our recent poll, which received hundreds of votes.

The bar, located on South Street, is run by business partners Rainer Barnes and Claire Farrell.

From the outside it appears to be a standard bar, but with a vape shop in the building and food served up in eco-friendly boxes, it is refreshingly far from the norm.

Upon arrival at Harpars Bar, I was warmly greeted by Pete, a member of the bar staff, who gave my partner and I a tour of the freshly renovated venue.

Pete explained how all the food served up is locally sourced and freshly made in-house by their team of talented chefs - even down to the sauce on the chicken wings.

Given that the bar is known for its wood-fired pizzas, which are hand stretched in-house and fermented for 24 hours, I decided to give one a try and opted for a ‘Spicy Brisket’ topping which costs £11.50.

This included a tomato and barbecue base with shredded spiced braised beef brisket, jalapenos, red onion, cheddar and mozzarella.

As it was ‘Wing Wednesday’ when I visited, I also added two portions of wings to the order which I chose to be coated in barbecue and lemon and herb sauce.

In terms of drinks, the bar has anything and everything from beers and wines to gins and cocktails - as well as soft drinks and non-alcoholic options.

One thing I liked is that the food arrives in sustainable cardboard boxes which gives you the option of eating in or enjoying it from the comfort of your own home. Or if like me, you can’t finish it all, then you can take your food back and have it for lunch the next day.

The pizza itself was amazing and certainly lived up to the hype. I could tell immediately that the dough was homemade and the toppings were fresh. The wings had loads of meat on and the sauces they were coated in were beautifully flavoursome.

Harpars Bar has a really relaxed and friendly vibe, and is a real community hub with its own pool team.

Whether you live nearby, are just passing through, or you just love top-quality food and drink, Harpars Bar is definitely worth a visit.
