Hospice appeal for volunteers

Join a great team and help make a difference

With 2014 drawing to a close and 2015 almost here many people are turning their attention to making plans for the year ahead.

T h e K i l b r y d e Ho s p i c e are hoping that among the many good intentions to stop smoking, to diet or exercise more, local folk will decide t o do s omething t hat wil l really make a difference and volunteer their time to help the new hospice thrive.

After many years of fundraisin­g and the generosity of the people of South Lanarkshir­e, the new hospice is now up and ready for business.

The day hospice is transferri­ng to the fantastic new building in the grounds of Hairmyres Hospital along with the palliative care service.

Later in the year it is hoped the i n-patient hospice will open.

And with each new addition, the need for more and more volunteers to help grows.

The volunteeri­ng roles the hospice has on offer are wide and varied.

They range from organising one-off or regular fundraiser­s to befriendin­g, driving and admin, roles, helping out in the hospice’s charity shops in East Kilbride and Hamilton,

Donna Hegarty, t he hospice’s business d e v e l o p m e n t m a n a g e r, said this week : “It i s a ver y e x c i t i n g t i me f o r f o l k t o j oi n our f abulous t eam of volunteers.

“And joining couldn’t be simpler.”

T h e K i l b r y d e Ho s p i c e have organised a volunteer recruitmen­t evening.

It will take place on Wedne s d a y , Ja nu a r y 1 4 , between 5 and 7pm at t he new Kilbryde Hospice a t Hai r myre s Hos p i t a l a t Eaglesham Road..

Anyone i nterested i n volunteeri­ng is invited to go along.

T h e r e wi l l b e a c ha n c e to chat to current staff and volunteers about the types of roles available and how you can help, whether you have just a few hours available or can make a regular commitment of time.

Folk who cannot go along on the night can still find out more.
