EK Rep exhibition

- Louise Reilly

East Kilbride Rep’s panto exhibition has been going down a storm ... oh yes it has.

And if you haven’t been along to see it, you have until January 25 to catch it at Low Parks Museum in Hamilton.

The e x hi bi t i on i s a must f or anyone who has ever wondered what t he origins of pantomime are, why the pantomime dame is played by a man and why a woman is often the principal boy?

As well as learning all that, there are animal costumes, outrageous dame outfits, principal boy c os t umes a nd much more on display.

With a full pictorial history of all the Rep’s pantomimes since 1966, you will spot some famous faces.

Find John Hannah in a pantomime costume and a young Julie Wilson Nimmo when she was once part of the panto children’s chorus/dance troupe, long before she found fame as Miss Hoolie in children’s favourite programme Balamory.

The e x hi bi t i on a l s o f e at ure s costumes from past pantomimes, many worn by professionals from the likes of the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr, including an original costume once worn by the late Glasgow comic Jack Anthony, who played the hilarious part of Jacky Bunion, a Spanish Onion, in the Glasgow Pavilion’s 1945 panto Puss in Boots.

East Kilbride Rep Theatre has been putting on pantos every year since 1966 which, for the past 30 years, have enjoyed a two-week run at the Village Theatre ... so there is a lot of history packed into one exhibition.

L ow Pa r k s Museum i s o p e n from 10am till 5pm daily, except for Sunday when opening times are 12 to 5pm.

Entrance is free.
