The youngsters put on a great show to mark the official opening of their new school

Built in 2013 as part of the c ouncil’s £ 800 mill i on Pr i mar y Schools’ Modernisation Programme, Maxwellton shares a campus with Greenburn school, which also had its official opening earlier this month.
Councillor Chr i s Thompson, chair of t he council’s enterprise r e s o u r c e s c o mmit t e e , d i d t h e honours and officially declared t he s chool open by unveiling a commemorative plaque. He was children entertained their VIP guests in style ably assisted by the school’s oldest and youngest pupils – Mitchell MacLeod (11) and four-year-old Annabelle Farrell.
Guests at t he ceremony were treated to an afternoon of song and drama recounting the histor y of the school, presented by each year group, and compered by the house captains.
He a d t e a c h e r J a n Mc L a r e n said: “It was a great pleasure t o welcome so many familiar faces t o our wonderful new school. It is a privilege to work in this great new s chool and s er ve t he l ocal community. We are lucky to have such a unique set up here where we s hare our building with our friends at Greenburn School. We live together, work together and play together, which is a huge benefit for the children of both schools.”
Councillor Thompson said: “I am absolutely delighted to officially open this amazing new building as part of a school building programme which is making sure that all of our young residents can develop their talents to their full potential.”
