Hospital staff do a wonderful job

-

I am appealing to your readers to volunteer for Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal, and help people living with a terminal illness in Lanarkshire get the care they need.

We’re looking for people who can donate a couple of hours of their time to collect for Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal this March.

Collecting for the Great Daffodil Appeal will help Marie Curie Nurses care for someone with a terminal illness at the Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow and in the community.

If you’re able to donate your time to help then please contact us on 0141 557 7563 or visit www.mariecurie.org.uk/ daffodil.

Dear Editor

As one who was recently hospitalised in Hairmyres Hospital for nine weeks, I would like to praise all the work done by all staff.

The nursing staff are run off their feet and I would say for a pittance of a wage.

The physiotherapists are exemplary and do their utmost to get patients back on their feet.

The auxiliary, domestic and catering staff are continually working against budgets that are always being cut.

Patients are forever moaning and seem to think they are staying in a five star hotel.

I would like to thank all staff in ward eight as, without them, I do not believe I would be alive and now walking.

The hospital, as far as I can see, is forever being put down by the press and public and for what reasons I do not understand, as the budgets they work to are impossible.

Not all is rosy though. The shop, which is run for charity by the WRVS, must run at a massive profit as the prices of most items are sky high and are hitting visitors and patients when they are at their most vulnerable.
