Support group in local move

Lanarkshir­e a nd Glasgow S ou t h Pa r k i n s o n ’s Gro u p have been given the use of a community room i n t he Murray Owen Centre.

Members and nonmembers, f a mil y , f r i e nds and carers are welcome to come along and make use of t he new meeting pl a c e on Fridays, between 1 and 3.30pm, from January 9.

The Murray Owen Centre is situated on Liddell Grove a c r o s s f r o m T h e Mu r r a y Square.

P e o p l e t r av e l l i n g f r o m Glasgow can take the No 6 bus service to East Kilbride, the 18 through Rutherglen or the 201 service from Hamilton.

Vice-chairman Jim Hilliard said he hopes as many people as possible will come along and support the group.

Lanarkshir­e and Glasgow South Branch offer informatio­n, friendship and support to local people with Parkinson’s, t heir f amilies and carers. They also organise regular events and social and fitness activities. Lanarkshir­e Family History Society’s first meeting of 2015 will be a Mini Family History Fair.

Among t h o s e a t t e n d i n g will be representa­tives from North Lanarkshir­e Heritage Centre and Archives, the A i r d r i e D i s c o v e r y R o o m, Shotts Heritage Group and West Lothian Family History Society.

There will also be the society’s own Irish, Military and General Advice Desks, as well as the bookstall with a huge range of family history-related publicatio­ns, including memorial i ns c r i pt i ons, t r a ns c r i bed baptism registers, local censuses and school histories.

This will be an excellent evening t o c ome al ong i f your New Year’s resolution is to start researchin­g your family tree, or if you need some extra help.

The Mini Family Histor y Fa i r t a k e s p l a c e i n t h e GLO Centre, Muir St re et, Motherwell at 7pm tomorrow (Thursday), January 8. It is open to members and nonmembers alike.
