Andrea O’Neill As a New Year begins we all take stock of our lives and the inevitable New Year resolutions are made.
Whether it’s improving fitness, stopping smoking, taking up a hobby, or just generally being a better person, January is often the time to take the first steps to a new you.

St Leonards mum Lisa McRae (35), with daughter Rachel (9), said: “My little one hasn’t been well over the holidays so I want to make sure we have fun and enjoy the year ahead with no regrets – life’s too short.
“I don’t reall ys t i ck t o New Year resolutions. I always plan to stop smoking but it never happens.
“We’ll be going on a f amily ho l i d a y to Gr e a t Ya r mo ut h an d Ra ch e l i s ex c i t e d ab o u t going on her first camping trip with the 3rd East Kilbride Girls’ Brigade.”
Rachel added: “My New Year resolution is to be more helpful around the house.”
School teacher Shona Alexander ( 35), of the Village, said: “2014 was a tough year. I was working non-stop and really busy so this year I plan to have more fun with my daughter ... go to t he park and r i de bikes more, get outdoors and have a healthier lifestyle.
“I love being near the sea so we are going a holiday to Fife to find crabs and rock pools and an adventure holiday to Centre Parcs.”
Daughter Mya (5) added: “I’m looking forward to going on pony rides and painting and drawing more.”
We st w o o d da d R a yy mo n d Burns (41), with son Jacob (2), said: “I don’t really believe i n New Year resolutions as no one ever sticks to them.
“I do charity work for Marie Cur i e East Kil br i de so I pl an to help organise the Big Daffodil Appeal and spend l ots of f un time with cheeky chops here.
“It’s his third birthday in May then we have family wedding to attend.”
