Italian chain set to take over The Byre

- Andrea O’Neill

A popular Italian restaurant chain is set to takeover Hairmyres pub-restaurant The Byre.

Tony Macaroni is reportedly moving into the large Eaglesham Road premises – its third eaterie in the town. The popular pizza-pasta joint already has its original restaurant at Calderwood Square and is opening takeaway Tony2Go at Lindsayfield Retail Parade.

Staff at The Byre in St James Retail Park were told of the closure by management G1 Group last week.

The News understands that the workers were told jobs could be available for them in other G1 Group establishments which include the plush Corinthian in Glasgow.

A source told the News: “Staff were called into a meeting a week to ten days ago and were told the pub was closing.

“Apparently Tony Macaroni bought it over last month.

“No one knows what the job situation is at the moment.”

The News made several attempts to contact the G1 Group and Tony Macaroni for comment but they failed to respond.
