Young Ambassadors
Secondary school pupils in East Kilbride and Strathaven were guests of honour at a special Young Ambassadors Conference led by Scottish athlete Eilidh Doyle.
As part of the national lottery funded programme, each year sportscotland host six regionalYoung Ambassadors conferences across the country and two pupils from each secondary school in Scotland are invited to attend.
Pupils from Calderglen, St Andrew’s and St Bride’s, Duncanrig and Strathaven Academy were invited to the third Young Ambassador conference at Hampden Park, along with 65 other secondary schools from the surrounding regions.
Led by 2016 Rio Olympic bronze medallist Eilidh Doyle (nee Child), the pupils gained an invaluable insight into the world of sport through the eyes of one of the country’s leading athletes.
TheYoung Ambassadors took part in a range of workshops with a team of Scottish athletes and sport development professionals, including Scottish international footballer Julie Fleeting, Scottish rugby union player Colin Gregor, British former swimmer Caitlyn McLatchey and 2016 Rio Olympic silver medallist Robbie Renwick.
The athletes provided the pupils with support and advice to help them gain the skills, knowledge and understanding required to undertake their pivotal role in schools and wider communities as role models and leaders of other young people.
