Rock ‘n’ roll at the races
Glasvegas and The View to play at Hamilton Park
Music fans are being urged to rock on down to Hamilton Park Racecourse as the venue’s first ever Music Festival Racenight comes to town.
This Saturday’s Totepool event, with headliners Glasvegas, will have visitors hitting the right-notes on a night of blistering music and racing entertainment.
The festival – which is the grand finale of Hamilton Park’s Jordan Electrics Super Saturday series – will bring a host of Scotland’s hottest live performers together on September 24.
Top-of-the-bill Glasvegas will entertain thousands of guests with classic tunes like ‘Geraldine’ and ‘Daddy’s Gone’ as well as performing a host of new material in their last gig of 2016.
Other big names – The View, The LaFontaines, The Voice winner Stevie McCrorie with a full live band, East Kilbride lads Kelvin, 100 Fables, Indigo Velvet and The Bar Dogs – will also rock the venue before and after racing with the first band taking to the stage at 12.45pm with live music right through to 11pm.
Gates to the actionpacked, day-long event open at noon – with a thrilling racecard to match the festival lineup including the £20,000 Totepool EBF Stallions Flower of Scotland Handicap Stakes (Class 3) feature race.
Racing manager Sulekha Varma – who is currently enjoying her first season at Hamilton Park – said: “Although the entertainment will be thrilling off the course, on the course we have a fantastic feature race as well as two extremely valuable Class 4 Handicaps.
“I’m delighted to announce that we have increased the prize money for each of these races to £12,000, taking the total prize money on offer to £66,000.
Vivien Kyles, chief executive at Hamilton Park Racecourse, said: “To say we are excited about hosting our first ever music festival on September weekend would be an understatement.
“This season has been all about breaking new ground for us and the Totepool Music Festival does just that, showcasing the best new Scottish bands alongside fan favourites like Glasvegas and The View.
“It’s been a long-held ambition to bring a music festival back to Hamilton and now it’s just around the corner we really can’t wait.
“The legendary T in the Park began just across the M74 in the 90s and now we are once again bringing the best of Scottish and local talent back to the heart of Lanarkshire. Hamilton Park will provide a stunning backdrop to what is sure to be a rocking night of top racing and music entertainment.”
