East Kilbride U20s .... 7 Whitehill Welfare ..... 2
East Kilbride U20s made a fine start to their league campaign with a thumping 7-2 win over Whitehill Welfare on Friday night.
Anton McGuigan gave EK a dream start at Roccarton with a first minute goal, before slackness allowed the home side to equalise.
However, an emphatic 15 minute spell before half-time saw Kilby race into a 5-1 lead at the break. Lewis Doherty headed home a Gavin Millar cross, before Michael Jones bulleted home a precise Liam Craig delivery.
Ex-Aberdeen and Linlithgow Rose man Jones then netted his second, with a fine left foot finish, before McGuigan scored a superb goal to make it 5-1.
Failure to defend a free-kick allowed Welfare to make it 5-2 on the hour, before Doherty fired home from 15-yards after good wide play from Millar.
Fifteen minutes from time James Cassidy had the final say for Kilby with a stunning curler into the top corner.
Kilby next face BSC Glasgow on Sunday at K-Park in round two of the SFA Youth Cup. Kick-off is 4pm.
Meanwhile, the U20s have set up a semi-final with Edusport Academy after topping their League Cup section.
A 2-1 win over BSC Glasgow, a 1-1 draw with Spartans and a 6-0 win over Edinburgh City helped them to top spot.
