First signs that winter is on the way
It was obvious that the seasons have now changed and winter is coming in fast when Claremont walkers set off for the Tinto Hill area on their recent outing.
The best part of the day was wet and windy although there were short spells of sunshine throughout. Fortunately the day ended in a dry sunny period allowing waterproofs to be ‘less wet’.
As is normal there were two walks, the long walkers tackled Tinto Hill (10 miles), which proved a very strenuous walk which when reaching the top the walkers found to be extremely windy.
The alternative walkers sought a different area for their walk and easily managed an 8.25 mile circular walk in Coulter, namely White Hill.
The countryside in this part of South Lanarkshire is extremely open and pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately it was necessary to be careful in parts and placing feet was rather more important than being able to enjoy the open spaces.
The coffee stop in the morning was in the very welcoming Tinto Hill Café which has recently opened and the social hour was whiled away in the very pleasant Mill Inn, Coulter.
Despite the weather and the muscles being taxed both sets of walkers thoroughly enjoyed their day’s walking. Their next walk, on Sunday, October 30, is from Inveruglas to Arrochar.
The next club night is on Tuesday, October 25, when Roddy Shanks will give a talk on Scotland in Bloom.
Meetings are held in Claremont Church Hall at 7.30pm and anyone wishing to join us on either walks or club nights can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
