East Kilbride gaffer Martin Lauchlan hopes he can land a pre-season friendly with Dutch giants Ajax and meet their class of 1971/72 if his side beat their world record on Saturday.

Kilby caused a sensation at the weekend as they came from 2-1 down to beat Vale of Leithen 4-2 with a couple of late goals and record their 26th straight victory.

That equaled the world record achieved by the late Johan Cruyff and his Ajax side in 1971/72.

And it prompted the Amsterdam outfit to tweet Kilby their congratulations on social media.

This weekend the Lowland League leaders can beat the world record – although it won’t be officially recognised by Guinness World Records – if they see off BSC Glasgow at K-Park. And Lauchlan is dreaming big. He told the News: “The tweet from Ajax was unbelievable and a great touch from

“The boys have been buzzing all this week whereas last week was a bit different.

“I think the pressure got to them a wee bit and you could see that with the first half of the Vale of Leithen game.

“It would have been terrible if we’d failed with one game to go.

“We didn’t mention the record all last week but, with all the attention, the story was everywhere and we couldn’t ignore it.

“This week I can see the players are fully focused on winning the next game.

“It will be tough because BSC beat Whitehill Welfare 5-1 last week and will be feeling confident.

“Although they’ve been a bit inconsistent, they can give anybody a
