Carla’s a City leader:

Striker helps Glasgow clinch ten-in-a-row status

- Paul Thomson

Carla Boyce helped Glasgow City clinch 10-in-a-row last week and hopes she can become a regular feature for the Scottish champions next season.

The 17-year-old striker, from Stewartfield, was part of the City side who beat Hibs 3-1 to lift the title and set a new Scottish footballing record for the most consecutive league wins.

Carla was spotted by Glasgow’s scouts three years ago when she played for EK Thistle Girls and has come through City’s youth academy to see more than her fair share of first team action.

She has made 16 appearances this season, most of them from the bench, but hopes to force her way into manager Scott Booth’s first 11 next season.

“The last couple of seasons have been great for me and it’s been about building up game time in the first team,” said Carla, who has scored three goals.

“Eddie Wolecki Black (the previous manager) brought me here when I was 14 and I’ve been in and out of the first team, playing more for the development team in the last couple of years.

“But I played enough to get a winners medal and win the Scottish Cup last season and this year I’ve got another league medal, so the last couple of years have been a great experience.

“Hopefully, next season I can been involved in even more games.

“I got on for the last 15 minutes against Hibs, so it was great to be involved in the game and the celebrations at the end.

“I’ve been with Glasgow City since I was 14, so I know what it means to them to get 10-in-a-row.

“It’s such a big achievement and it’s amazing being part of it.”

With a handful of Scotland Under-19 caps to her name, Carla has also played a major role in helping the national team reach the elite round of qualifying for the 2017 European Championships.

The Williamwood High School pupil scored twice in her appearances against Albania and Cyprus, while also providing one assist for her team-mates.

She added: “Being so young and being part of such a successful team is fantastic and it’s helped me with the Scotland team as well.

“I’m lucky to play alongside some really experienced players like our captain (and Scotland senior international) Leanne Ross.

“The teams in our league have been getting stronger every year, but we’ve made sure we stay ahead of them by pushing ourselves more and more each season to improve.”
